Running Shoe Review: Mizuno Wave Rider 22 - Available at Profeet

The Wave Rider 22 is one of the lightest shoes with the most cushioning on the market in the neutral range. Its previous models have also had this characteristic and this hasn’t changed with this update.

  • Weight: 280g (UK 8) 240g (UK 5.5)
  • Drop: 12mm
  • Price: £125

Profeet thoughts: The Wave Rider in general is a favourite amongst our customers, interestingly so mainly on the men’s side potentially due to the shape. The update from the 21 is very minimal and thus doesn’t change the feel too drastically for those who know and love the Rider shape and ride.

Underfoot the firm ride of the Rider 22 makes running feel effortless and the space for the foot to splay means no cramping and no excessive overlays in the forefoot. The slight change from the 21st model is that the upper is fully with engineered mesh. Previously is was only the forefoot. This now means the shoe fits more adaptively through the midfoot and rearfoot to the foot for closer fit.

The overall feel of this shoe is firm, comfortable and stable. The shape of the shoe is classically Mizuno- high supported heel and wider forefoot.

The Wave Rider uses both U4ic and U4icx material in the cushioning of the shoe giving the combination of that cushioned but firm stable ride to the shoe.
