Chloe takes a look in depth at the Wimbledon line up for this year -

The Big 3 – Nadal, Djokovic and Federer asserted their dominance once again at the French Open, taking three of the four semi-final places. They have now secured 53 of the 64 Grand Slam tournament played since Federer first won Wimbledon back in 2003, and between them they have won all the last 10.

The question that everyone is asking is, will the Big Three continue to dominate at this years Wimbledon or will there be a new victor?

Nadal is in a great position going into Wimbledon after his dominant performance in Paris. He is long overdue a Wimbledon win having not lifted the trophy since 2010, his more aggressive style of play shown at Roland Garros will certainly go some way to putting up a serious challenge. Having decided to sit out in any Wimbledon-warm up events again this year, this is reflected in his seeding at this year’s Wimbledon, so it will be interesting to see how far he can go.

Until he was beaten by Domonic Thiem in unfavourable weather conditions in Paris, Djokovic was on a 26-match winning streak. Djokovic’s style of play makes him an extraordinary grass court player, so he will be looking to capitalize on this when he plays at Wimbledon, where he has won three of the last five. He is the top seed in this year’s tournament and based on current form must be one of the favourites.

Out of the three, Federer’s game is most suited to the grass (with the seeding to prove it), having won Wimbledon a record eight times. Off the back of his record 10th Halle win, he will once again be primed for this year’s tournament. Last year he only managed to reach the quarter finals where he was beaten by the South African Kevin Anderson in a five-set epic. Having cautiously managed his season this year, he will be eager to avoid the long tiresome 5-set matches if he wants to lift the Wimbledon trophy once more.

In a recent interview former world number one Boris Becker has called for the younger players to “show up” at major tournaments with Dominic Thiem being the only player under the age of 33 currently on the ATP tour to reach a Grand Slam final.

Other contenders include twenty-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas, he beat Federer at the Australian open, Nadal on clay in Madrid this year and his match against Wawrinka was one of the greatest at the French Open. He did however suffer a surprising upset to the young Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime at Queens, who himself has the potential to go far.

Alexander Zverev is also highly expected to make a Grand Slam breakthrough, he has played at a consistently high level, having won 10 titles in just over two years, however his form has slipped recently. Other names to look out for include Denis Shapovalov, and Alex de Minaur and if you can get past his adolescent behaviour at times Nick Kyrgios does have wins over the top three previously.

The drama kicks off on Monday and it will be good to see if the Big-3 can be knocked off their perch or will they continue to rein supreme.
