Ski Manager at Profeet, Janine Winter, reports on ‘an awesome week’ in Zermatt with Salomon:
I was lucky enough to have skied and tested some of the new product for the forthcoming 2015/16 season – I was definitely impressed!
Salomon are going all out next season and are introducing an exciting range of Salomon 2016 ski boots and skis to compete in the touring market.
There will be two new models of boot: one will be stiffer, focusing on keeping the maximum downhill performance; and one slightly softer, focused on saving weight for the uphill.
They both have dynafit inserts in the toes so you can step into any pin binding for the ultimate touring set up. When released into walk mode the cuff is unlocked allowing a large range of movement.
“I was really impressed with the fit of the boots”
I was really impressed with the fit of the boots, with a 98mm last they held my foot securely and gave superb control.
Considering this was the first day I skied the boots, I was able to skin up and ski all day without getting any pressure points.
Salomon have also designed a range of lightweight skis that work with the boots to complete the touring set up. They are easy to manoeuvre and incredibly light – I had a lot of fun ripping around on them.
Snow conditions were certainly in our favour for our backcountry day as it had snowed overnight and we were blessed with blue skies and powder…it doesn’t get much better!
Aside from the backcountry gear, we also tested a large selection of skis including front side carvers, all mountain skis designed to go anywhere, and fully-rockered twin tips.
Something to suit every skiing style and ability level
There was something to suit every skiing style and ability level.
The Quest series of skis were probably my favourite in softer, powder conditions and have some great looking graphics for the forthcoming season.
On the harder packed snow I loved the front side carving range, which were quick edge to edge and held a solid edge on the ice.
After a great week away, I’m excited to see the direction Salomon have taken for next season. It’s great to see they’ve expanded their range to cater to all aspects of the skiing market.
