Profeet is working closely with leading sports bra manufacturer Moving Comfort to help break down the barriers and taboo subject of supporting breasts while we run.

Profeet team member Emma has put together this sports bra advice, plus we have a special 25% discount offer thanks to Brooks Running (see below for details).

Correct fitting sports bras are essential

Wearing the correct fitting sports bra is not just about comfort – it is crucial to supporting breast tissue and in preventing long term damage.

Moving Comfort – part of the Brooks Running brand – are the market leaders in creating research-driven products to ensure their bras provide the most comprehensive support with the least amount of irritation.

Five Sports Bra Facts

Moving Comfort have themselves been working closely with Portsmouth University to ensure everything is thoroughly tested and works to an optimum level. Their work has revealed some interesting facts:

1.       80% of women wear the wrong bra size

2.       More than 40% of women don’t wear a sports bra when exercising

3.       An A cup moves up to 4cm even while walking

4.       There is no muscle in breast tissue – while it’s a fact of life that breasts will feel the effects of gravity, wearing a sports bra delays this process

5.       Everyday bras offer support but don’t reduce movement – sports bras are designed to reduce movement

How should a sports bra fit?

  • Breast tissue should be held completely within the cups, not overflowing at the neckline or underarm. Any spillage indicates the cup is too small.
  • Cups should be smooth and wrinkle free. Wrinkles or puckers indicate the cup is too big.
  • The back band should be nice and snug as it provides most of the support.
  • The back band should sit straight across the back, if it rides up it is not snug enough.
  • If straps dig in, then they are too tight. This normally occurs when the back band is too loose and straps get tightened to provide support.
  • Most of the support should come from the back band.

When should I replace my sports bra?

  • If your sports bra looks worn, feels less secure and isn’t supporting you the way it was when you first bought it, then you should replace it.
  • Always take time to try on a new sports bra, you would buy shoes without trying them on would you?
  • A well fitted sports bra with the correct support level is as important as good running shoes.
