15 Facts about the UTMB 2017

Did you get a place in the ballot for one of the 2017 UTMB races? Taking place in the Alps at the end of August this is the world’s most famous trail running festival.

• The UTMB^®weekend consists of five races (the UTMB^®, CCC^®, TDS^®, OCC and PTL^®) ranging from 56km to 290 km
• Around 8000 competitors will take part
• The UTMB races take place between August 28^th and September 3^rd 2017
• This will be the 15^th edition of the UTMB
• There are participants from 92 countries taking part, including from Cambodia, Costa Rica, Gambia and Mauritius.
• There was an 15% increase in runners from the USA to 212
• The growing interest in trial running in Asia has seen a huge jump in competitors from China from 185 in 2016 to 301 in 2017

• 85% of runners are men and 15% women
• 5% of UTMB runners and 23% of OCC runners are women
• The average age of male runners is 42
• The average age of female runners is 41
• The oldest competitor running in the UTMB is 75
• The youngest runner in the UTMB will be 20 – the youngest in the history of the event
• The oldest competitor in all races will take part in the OCC at the age of 86
