2024 run stats: could 2025 be your year? -
strava run stats

As we move into 2025, it’s a great time to reflect on the latest running trends. According to the Strava Year in Sport Report, the active community continues to evolve, embracing balance (not burnout) and camaraderie alongside performance.

Key trends from 2024 include a rise in social running, with group activities growing by 26%. Another notable trend is the shift in training, with more runners incorporating rest days and balanced training regimes. Women have logged a significant increase in weight training, while men are embracing yoga and pilates to enhance flexibility and recovery.

A few of our ambassadors share their highlights from 2024 and their 2025 goals.

Natalie Lawrence: A stellar return to racing

“2024 was my return to professional racing,” says Natalie Lawrence, elite GBR triathlete. “To say I’ve had a good season is an understatement. It’s been a solid year with varying race distances and experiences, including HYROX!”

Natalie’s achievements include:

  • Completing 4 marathons, setting personal bests in both the 5K and marathon.
  • Shaving 3 minutes off her 2023 London Marathon time with 2hr52 (aiming for sub 2hr50 in 2025)
  • 1st overall female (second time running) at the Long Course Weekend in Wales, as well as 1st female at its inaugural Yorkshire event (Ironman distances over 3-days).

“I learned a lot about the importance of consistency, recovery, and listening to your body,” she reflects. In November, after dabbling with HYROX training, Natalie came a very close 3rd at the London Excel pairs event, qualifying for this year’s World HYROX Championships in Chicago!

However, Natalie’s main goal is to continue her Professional Triathlon Organisation World rankings, with more European events and, “a third year title at the Long Course Weekend Wales would be nice!”

Melissah Gibson: Creativity meets achievement

Team GB ultramarathon runner Melissah Gibson brings humour and resilience to her training.

“I don’t have any interesting Strava stats – I get my kudos by running in the shape of penguins and making stupid rhymes for each run,” she jokes.

Melissa’s achievements include:
Despite unforeseen setbacks, Melissah achieved a 5th place finish at the 100km World Championships, earning a team silver medal. Just eight days later, she came 2nd in the Pisa Marathon, proving her ability to recover and deliver.

Her goal for 2025?

“I tend to take 3 minutes off my marathon PB each year, so I’d love to maintain that tradition. Other than that, more long races, possibly back to Comrades, and maybe another 100K.”

Harry Leleu: Consistency and ambition

Elite GBR triathlete Harry Leleu had an impressive year, logging 3,736km of running over 702 hours and 315 days. His training included 412 laps of the Loughborough University track, often alongside the 2024 World and Olympic Champion, Alex Yee.

“My proudest achievement of 2024 was finishing 22nd in the World Triathlon Championship grand final in Torremolinos,” Harry shares.

“My main goal for 2025 is to continue racing in the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) and push into the top 30 in the world rankings.”

Pierre Meslet: Adventure and resilience

Coastal trail enthusiast Pierre Meslet embraced the wild in 2024, spending much of his time running in South West London, mainly at his stomping ground of Wimbledon Common.

Pierres’s achievements include:His standout moment was completing the Coastal Challenge in Costa Rica – a gruelling 250km race across jungle, beaches, and mountains, despite a severe ankle injury on day two.

“I had to let go of competing for a ranking and focus on enjoying the adventure and finishing the race,” Pierre says. In February, he’ll be returning to the Coastal Challenge with renewed determination and has more trail races planned. “I’m excited to focus on good training, excellent recovery, and quality racing this year.”
