We review the latest in Saucony’s super shoes
As you are probably aware, many distance running world records have been broken since the introduction of ‘super shoes’ in 2016. So just what is that makes these shoes so super?
What is a super shoe?
In a nutshell, super shoes are lightweight running shoes with noticeably thicker stacked foam soles with ‘magical’ carbon fibre plates embedded. Their springy composition and rocker-shape are designed specifically to help runners run faster and further. They often feature a super lightweight upper. Whilst overall they’re less durable than standard running shoes, they are designed for fast race days rather than everyday runs.

How does the Endorphin Elite 2 stack up?
In true super shoe style, the Elite 2 features the aptly named INCREDIRUN® FOAM, a squishy marshmallow-like superfoam cushioning with outstanding energy return. It provides quite possibly the softest ride on the market currently.
Next comes the full-length slotted carbon fibre plate that promises explosive propulsion with each stride yet is more flexible/less stiff and than its V1 predecessor – a noticeable evolution of the Elite model.
The midsole is a new ‘grippy’ rubber compound called PWRTRAC, as used on trails, for better traction on the road. Coupled with a newly tweaked, ultralight, stretchy mesh upper for a snug hold, this shoe is lighter on the feet than the Elite 1 with improved heel lockdown and stretchy laces that feel secure. The fit is somewhat narrow and slightly short, so if you have broader feet you might want to try a size up to your usual running shoe.
The stats
Heel height: 39.5mm
Forefoot: 31.5mm
Heel drop: 8 mm drop
Weight – women’s: 183g
Weight – men’s: 199g
Could these be your race day choice?
This shoe is designed for competitive road running and gives an excitingly bouncy ride that translates to increased speed. We found that the feeling changes as both you and the shoe warm up transitioning to a firmer, springier sensation. If you’re used to a firm ride, this may come as a surprise, but once you get the hang of it, the effect is pleasing – indeed thrilling!
The overall ride is perhaps not the most stable, especially for rear foot strikers, so this shoe is potentially better suited to mid/forefoot strikers and a neutral pronation profile. Meanwhile, the revised outsole provides a more reassuring grip in the rain (as well as dry conditions).
Review by Profeet Ambassador, Ultrarunner and Cost Rica Coastal Trail 2025 winner, Pierre Meslet:
Awesome product creation by @saucony Absolutely love these speedy shoes. So much bounce I’m actually surprised they are race legal 😜. Super comfy and impressive kick. Still searching for your @londonmarathon race day shoe…?

Accessible for regular runners
Not just for elite runners, the Endorphin Elite 2 improves running economy across a range of paces, but is better suited for distance – 10K+. Whilst they’re not really designed for short easy run days, they really quicken the pace for distance activities. If you’re planning a race event you’ll want to steadily work up your distance in these shoes, varying between your daily shoes and your super shoes to increase range and confidence, and also preserve the shelf life of these finely honed fiery foot friends.
Best of all the super soft foam means that your legs won’t feel as stiff as planks after a 30 mile run. Recovery time is much improved.
So, go get your Saucony Endorphine Elite 2’s.
Run fast. Run far. Have fun. Enjoy!
