HOKA were the originator of the oversized midsole, designed for ultrarunners who wanted comfort over very long distances.
The original disruptor
Born in the French Alps, HOKA were busy building maximalist chunky soles precisely as the trend for minimalist barefoot running was taking hold back in the 2010s. The barefoot concept, however, quickly went out of fashion because, in reality, very few people could master the strength training required to wear them – nor tolerate the stress fractures and injuries that resulted.
Cushioning is best!
We learned instead that for modern man accustomed to wearing shoes, foot protection is the better route for performance and longevity. HOKA’s concept was to allow runners to cover variable terrain and gradients with confidence – giving a stable, cushioned and smooth ride, especially for trail and mountain running.
Our original goal was to improve endurance race times by designing a shoe to go downhill faster. In doing so, we inadvertently reinvented the running shoe.”
HOKA 2026
Today, HOKA are a global success and have broadened their range to include everyday road running shoes and lighter race trainers, while continuing to develop their off-road shoes.
> SEE OUR RANGE
Hoka Arahi 8: (Left) A stability-focused trainer with guided support that gently controls overpronation without feeling stiff, pairing lightweight cushioning with smooth transitions. Great for daily runs or long walks if you need structural support, this shoe blends comfort and responsiveness and helps reduce strain for runners with flat or collapsing arches.
Hoka Bondi 9: (Right) Ultra-plush neutral shoe with maximal cushioning that feels like walking on clouds and softens impact for joints. Ideal for easy runs, recovery days, or all-day wear, it prioritises comfort over speed and responsiveness, making it a go-to for those who want smooth, cushioned rides without stability needs.

Hoka Clifton 10: (Left) Balanced and versatile daily trainer with generous cushioning and a smooth, energetic ride that suits most runners and walkers. It’s lighter and more responsive than the Bondi while still comfortable for long distances, making it a reliable all-around choice for training, errands, and everyday mileage.
Hoka Gaviota 6: (Right) Premium stability shoe blending firm support and plush cushioning for overpronators or those needing extra stability on longer sessions. It’s heavier and more structured than Arahi, so excellent for long walks or runs where stability and comfort are key, reducing fatigue and odd gait stresses.
