Profeet sponsors ‘May Contain Iron’

Long-time friend, Paul, approached Profeet to assist in his mission to complete an IronMan challenge to raise funds for the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation

The impact of allergies features regularly in the national news. Reactions can range from the well-known hay fever symptoms caused by pollen allergies, such as sneezing and watering eyes – to the much more serious effects caused by a reaction to things like peanuts and shell fish amongst many other allergens. Severe allergies at their worst can lead to anaphylactic shock, a sudden and potentially life-threatening reaction that involves the whole body.

“The reaction is marked by constriction of the airways, leading to difficulty breathing. Swelling of the throat may block the airway in severe cases.”

From personal experience

Paul’s family has lived with the effects of allergies for years and he knows only too well the worry that this brings, especially when away from home or familiar environments.

Food allergy became significant in our lives when our son was diagnosed with severe food allergies as a baby. Our local hospital intensive care unit was a regular destination in his early years. Every meal, every snack, every day requires constant diligence.

Because of this, Paul has supported charities focusing on this subject for many years.
 

The charity

Many people will recall the case of 15 year old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse who tragically died after eating a sandwich purchased at Heathrow Airport, which had undeclared and invisible sesame seed baked into the bread. It was a shocking event and one that brought the reality of allergies to the forefront, highlighting how even a small amount of a particular substance can be toxic and even lethal for some people.

Ironman Challenge in Copenhagen

Paul is bravely taking on an Ironman Challenge in Copenhagen on 17^th August 2025. He will swim 2.3 miles, Cycle 112 mile and then run a marathon. No mean feat for this retired businessman (aged 63). He has approached this task with much gusto and humour starting with a trip to Profeet for analysis, custom insoles and running shoes to get him off to the best possible start.
