I want to take this opportunity to thank Profeet. I am blister free and although I don’t want to curse it, free from injury. This is undoubtedly because I have their customised innersoles combined with the correct trainers.”

I am now a quarter of the way through my 52 marathons in 52-week challenge and seems like a good time to provide a brief update. It’s hard! But I’m mostly enjoying myself. It helps that I’ve managed to get to some pretty unique races and meet other runners from all over the world. It’s difficult to accept that I can’t run as fast as I would normally. I would normally hope to run around 3:30 – 3:40 depending on course difficulty, climate etc. but as I’m not getting sufficient recovery time and to avoid injury, I’m having to take things steady and get around in more like 4:00 – 4:15. My legs can’t do much more right now and the wall sometimes appears much earlier than its supposed to J It is important to remember that this is all for charity and thank you to all who have sponsored me. Please do look at the great work Hope for Children are doing.
Recovery is a key part of my weekly routine between races and involves sports massage, cycling and plenty of stretching. I try to get lots of sleep and eat properly as well.
My highlight so far? probably Rome, closely followed by Barcelona. The start of the Rome marathon is outside the Coliseum and there is so much to see as you go around, the course gave a great tour of the City. The only problem is you run on quite a lot of cobbled streets which can be tricky on tired legs. I also really enjoyed Malta and Gran Canaria. The worst bit…probably when I ran 4 marathons in 4 days at an event in Kent. I had a stomach bug and couldn’t have come at a worse time! With a challenge like this it is kind of inevitable that you will be ill at some point, but I really wish it wasn’t then!

Looking forward to interesting races on the horizon, I have Prague at the end of the month, closely followed by The Great Wall of China marathon. They say to take your PB and treble it for that race…so that’s going to be interesting! I’m also looking forward to a marathon on the Isle of Islay, one of the more unusual ones.
Thank you once again to all at Profeet, your support is very much appreciated.
Chris is doing this incredible challenge to raise money for a charity called ‘Hope for Children’. ‘Hope for Children’ is a charity which enables vulnerable children to experience a happy childhood by improving their access to education and health care, and empowering families to support themselves. The charity is one of the smaller charities that exists and therefore the money goes a long way. Chris is looking to raise £12,000 over the course of what remains of 2017 and 2018.
