Next month, the world’s favourite grass Tennis tournament will arrive at SW19 for two weeks of sun (hopefully), tennis and the all-important strawberries & cream. Wimbledon 2018 begins on July 2nd and is sure to bring some spectacular play, but who are the key players we should keep our eyes peeled for in the draw?
In the Men’s game Andy Murray is unlikely to feature strongly this year due to barely playing since the 2017 tournament due to a hip injury. We obviously cannot rule out the gentleman of Tennis himself to win again. Mr Roger Federer who returns to SW19 as the reigning Champion will be hard to beat seeing as this is his most favoured surface. However, Nadal seems to have finally got his mojo back after earning back the World number 1 seeding for the first time since his knee surgery a few years ago. Last year he also won both the US and most impressively his 10th French open. Will he be able to take on his biggest rival Federer if the make it to the final? In the top 10 Men to watch are Marin Cilic, Gregor Dmitrov and Alexander Zvrev.
In the Women’s game, Serena Williams is back. Less than a year after giving birth to her daughter she will be back in London to go for her (unbelievably) 24th grand slam-that’s if she doesn’t win the French Open over the next week. The controversial decision for the Tennis association to protect her ranking going into this year’s event has caused somewhat of a ruckus. Defending champion from last year, Garbiñe Muguruza won’t go down without a fight however. So, a very competitive women’s draw will take place!
In the top 10 Women to also watch are Jelena Ostapenko, Petra Kvitova and Serena’s sister Venus Williams.
Profeet & Tennis
At Profeet during June/July we see far more Tennis players coming in to see us as they are very aware of how vital insoles are to their performance on court. Mike Bryan came to Profeet to get his insoles done as they could be fitted and made on the same day. Whilst Novak Djokovic says his insoles are more important than his shoes when playing!
