After Federer was beaten in straight sets by Nadal in the semi final of the Roland Garros tournament, many are questioning whether he has what it takes to come back to Wimbledon and try to win his 21st major title. Nadal however, is not the only player who could affect Federer’s chances. Novak Djokovic did crash out of the French however his record on grass speaks for itself: the 4 time Wimbledon Champ wont be looking for anything less than a spot in the final.
An interesting article on the BBC quoted Boris Becker stating that some more young talent is very much needed especially in the men’s game to break the run of the top three (Nadal, Federer and Djokovic). Between them all they have won 54 grand slam titles- an incredible feat. But, will anyone be able to take them on for the 2019 title? The other headline is whether Andy Murray will play at this tournament?
In the Women’s game the draw is far more wide open. A lot of young female talent is shooting through and looking to tackle the likes of Serena Williams, who is said to be training hard and coming to Wimbledon returning to her best form. Angelique Kerber is certainly one to watch having achieved quarter finals at the French open, as well as showing up to Wimbledon this year as defending champion-she won’t let anyone take the trophy away from her easily. To name a few who could challenge for the final: Petra Kvitova, Ashleigh Barty, Naomi Osaka and Johanna Konta.
All the action kick starts on Monday 1st July.
Profeet & Tennis
At Profeet during June/July we see far more Tennis players coming in to see us as they are very aware of how vital insoles are to their performance on court. Mike Bryan came to Profeet to get his insoles done as they could be fitted and made on the same day. Whilst Novak Djokovic says his insoles are more important than his shoes when playing!
